What a price to pay. This beautiful young woman was beheaded and her head thrown in the street as a warning to other Islamic women.

HELPING VICTIMS OF CULTURALLY AGGRAVATED MURDER & DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TO SURVIVE
My name is Zena. I have lived my life on a witness protection scheme. My name and city are protected for my own safety because, 16yrs ago, I fled an arranged marriage. My story, discussed in the House of Commons, led to the formation of the first women’s working group looking into ethnic minority murders, now termed as ‘honor killings’.
The ZENA FOUNDATION IS A UNIQUE CHARITY committed to helping women fleeing from either Culturally Aggravated Murder (CAM) or Domestic Violence (DV). Abused by a partner or threatened for refusing an arranged marriage many victims are forced to escape with nothing but the clothes on their backs. There is no recourse to private or public funds.
Imagine a woman in fear for her life, arriving in the middle of the night at the local police station covered in bruises. She has used her last ounce of courage only to learn that she cannot be helped.
The police ring the local refuge but with little hope of rooms available. If, she returns home what can she expect? Fists, kicks, broken bones, sexual abuse and rape. DV attacks make up 15% of violent crime in the UK: one incident is reported every minute.
Two women are murdered every week by current or former partners.
CAM attacks have risen 80% last year, with families hiring Bounty Hunters to track down victims. (Zena’s own story first highlighted this in 1997). With no recourse most victims are refused support and are forced into trading sex for a place to stay, going from abuse to abuse.
The Zena Foundation believe in making a difference. UK organisations and police can now contact The Zena Foundation to provide the vital help in the first few weeks for these victims to survive.
